Western Australia
One of the things which strike overseas visitors the most about Western Australia is its
size. In fact even Australians are struck by the vastness of this region
of their country. Western Australia takes up one third of Australia
. It is also the region of
Australia where you can truly experience
the outback and all its magic, colour, vastness and peacefulness. Think
red dirt, wildflowers, starry nights, blue skies and crystal clear waters brimming with
fish.
Perth is the capital of Western
Australia and this is where the greatest concentration of people is found in this huge state.
Whilst Perth is a cosmopolitan city much of
Western Australia is uninhabited. Western Australia is also a place of townships with small populations, many of which
exist as a result of the Gold Rush days of the early 1900’s.
It is a prosperous state, due
largely to the Gold Mining industry which is centred on Kalgoorlie , located approximately 595km to
the east of Perth and 200 km
to the North of Norseman. It is also rich in culture
thanks to the Indigenous people who still live in communities across the State. Many are happy and proud to
share their culture with visitors through artwork and stories and this is one of the many things that can
make a trip to Western Australia so special.
Also significant is the rich
Gold Mining history of Kalgoorlie and the
surrounding area known as the Golden Mile. The legacy
of the Gold Rush times in Kalgoorlie and the Golden Mile live on
in the people, landscape and architecture of the region.
Today visitors can come
to Kalgoorlie and explore the
area and its history whilst enjoying the comforts that come with a bustling city such as comfortable
accommodation, restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and shopping precincts. To truly experience the
richness of Western Australia and Kalgoorlie-Boulder plan to visit
soon.
