Kalgoorlie Pubs
If you want to experience the real outback you cannot miss
a visit to a Kalgoorlie Pub. In Australia the outback/country ‘Pub’ is as iconic as the Kangaroo and Footy, and
Australia just would not be
Australia without its
Pubs.
In the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region there are approximately 25 pubs. With a population of roughly
30,000 people that is a fairly high concentration of pubs and speaks volumes about the central role the pub
plays in this community. In Kalgoorlie the Pub is not just a place to get a drink, but a place to gather
and it always has been.

However, Kalgoorlie's Pubs are
not only places for locals and visitors alike to gather, they also speak to the history of the town through
their architecture and memorabilia. Many of the local pubs have existed
since the Gold Rush days when at its height Kalgoorlie was home to 93 Hotels and 8
Breweries.

Australian’s tend to make a
Pub their own. Especially in a town like Kalgoorlie you will find that most people have a
favourite watering hole and loyalty to it is another thing that gives the Pub its
identity. There is many a pub in Australia where you will find the same faces day after day and many of these characters will
share a yarn or two with you and give you an insight into the history and happenings of the area that cannot
be found anywhere else.

In Kalgoorlie several of
the pubs are important historical landmarks which feature colonial and federation
architecture. The Palace Hotel is one example of this. It was built in 1897 and was
designed to be the most luxurious hotel outside of Perth. The building was the first in the area to have its own generator and fresh water to the
bathrooms. Its construction is of stone quarried locally and notably for the times, The Palace Hotel was furnished out of Melbourne.

Another must see Pub is
The Exchange Hotel. This is probably
Australia ’s most photographed Hotel and
it is also home to much memorabilia that is certainly worthy of a look. You should also plan to
visit the Federal Hotel, the Grand Hotel, the Criterion Hotel and the York Hotel to name just a
few.
If its nightlife you are
after make sure you include a visit to Paddy’s Bar at The Exchange Hotel and
Judd’s Pub at the Kalgoorlie Hotel. For a quiet drink with
family or friends, try Flanagan’s Bar and the York Hotel.
